ZAMBIAN PROJECT

Our work in Zambia involves working with poor families and orphans. We help to support the families and work in conjunction with local schools to help the children receive an education.

The children in some of these families have lost both of their parents and are being raised by siblings or grandparents. We try to support the family structure so as to provide stability for the children.

During our recent visit, we have decided to house 7 orphans in homes with a supporting parent. These are orphans we had identified to be at risk or vulnerable as they have no proper family support within the extended family.

Housing project

With sufficient funding, we hope to be able to add sheltered housing support to the poorest partsĀ  of Zambia. With enough skilled volunteers, we can build safe homes with running water and proper sanitation. We have applied for land though the ministry of Lands and are waiting for the results. We aim to build houses for vulnerable families and orphans.

Farming Project

In partnership with the local schools and faith organisations, part of the land will be used for farming and skills centre for the local community. This will help in the sustainability of the orphan projects and also is a way of building the community through skills and training.

School Project

Since we are in partnership with two local community schools, the team and volunteers have arranged trips once every year to go and help the school with teaching, cleaning and holding meetings with the local community.
We are now looking for teachers and social workers to come along on a short team trip to the school. Umoya Trust (UK) has also applied to Computer for Africa who have given us 35 computers waiting to be shipped to these schools. Anyone with IT skills is welcome to come and help at any level. We believe that all the children in this community should have a strong education foundation.
We are also looking to schools anywhere in the world to donate some of the materials they are not using, ie books, toys, pencils, paper etc.

TOGO PROJECT

Our missions in Togo involve working closely with children and providing and adding to the care infrastructure. We help to support the families and work closely with local schools.

We arrange primary care for orphaned children, This keeps them safe from potential abuse and bullying. The primary carers are our contact with the children and allow us to provide help where needed.

We have been working closely with the local Chief and are aiming to get the local community involved in agriculture by buying land which is suitable for sustained farming. The donations received by Umoya Trust (UK) help to purchase the necessary land and teach the locals the appropriate farming techniques.
